According to their official website, “Effective September 20th 2023, the Flothemes store is closed and Flothemes products are no longer available for purchase.”

As a result, the many users who have purchased and used Flothemes now find themselves unable to update their website with the risk of it being hit by some hater or bug.
I’m not a Flothemes expert, so I don’t know specifically about this company for building websites, but I know Kadence very well and in this article I will tell you how to rebuild the design of your Flotheme website from scratch with a Kadence theme. So don’t worry, there is a remedy for everything.

How and why should you migrate your site from Flothemes to Kadence?

If you’re looking to switch from Flothemes to a new theme, you might be considering Kadence. Flothemes, known for its customizable and stylish WordPress themes, has been a popular choice for many, but the company has faced some changes recently. Important introductory question: is it possible to migrate 100% exact design from Flotheme to Kadence?

No, be wary of anyone who tells you otherwise. There is no automatic process that converts your website from Flotheme to Kadence while keeping the design intact and 100% the same.
But this happens simply because Flotheme and Kadence use two types of drag & drop builders that are totally different from each other: on the one hand, the Flotheme team had developed its own builder whose code differs from Gutenberg or Elementor, and secondly Kadence (and other WordPress themes) allow you to build your own website using either Gutenberg or Elementor.
As a result, once you apply the Kadence theme in your old Flotheme website you will have a lot of unusable CSS code inside the pages that is specific to the old Flotheme builder.
What you can do in this case is to rebuild the design of your website from scratch trying to remain as faithful as possible to your old Flotheme design (only if you want to keep the same design obviously) taking into account that the two builders are totally different, they were built differently and each have their own options.
You can find design options on Kadence that Flotheme didn’t have and vice versa, but don’t worry – Kadence is an excellent and professional theme and I’m sure you won’t regret migrating. So, how do you migrate your site? Read on and I’ll explain it to you step by step.

Phase 0: Prepare your website for migration.

This means that you must back up your entire fully functional site BEFORE starting the migration process, so that you can restore it in case of problems. Don’t think about making a backup only after the migration, as in this case you will lose all the content and design of the entire website.
But how to backup before migration? This is very simple.
Simply log in to your hosting provider, scroll into the control panel and look for the option that will allow you to make an automatic backup of your old site. When the backup is complete, I strongly recommend you download a copy and save it on your computer in case of malfunction or bug in your hosting service.
If you are unable to back up through your hosting provider, you can use a plugin within your WordPress site that will automatically take care of everything.
One of the backup plugins that I suggest, for example, is UpdraftPlus which allows you to make a secure backup.
Whatever plugin you want to use, it is of fundamental importance that you also download here a copy of the complete backup that the plugin made on your computer, that you rename it in such a way as not to forget that that file is the complete backup, in order to have it ready in case you need to restore your site. Please note, this step is of fundamental importance!

Phase 1: Create a staging copy of your website.

A staging copy of a website is an exact replica of your live website, created in a separate environment, specifically for testing and development purposes. This staging environment allows you to safely make changes, test new features, plugins, updates, or design modifications without affecting your live site. By using a staging copy, you can ensure that any adjustments work correctly and don’t cause disruptions or downtime for your visitors. Once you’re satisfied with the changes, you can deploy them to your live site with confidence.

Why a staging copy is so important?

It is important that you rebuild your design with Kadence from scratch within a staging copy of your site rather than building your website design directly within your actual website because in the staging copy you can create and experiment with the design you want while at the same time keeping your actual website ACTIVE FOR THE PUBLIC AND PERFECTLY FUNCTIONAL – thus avoiding ruining it, putting it in maintenance mode or losing daily views.

Phase 2: Migrate your design from your stage copy to your actual and real website.

Once you’ve completely finished rebuilding your website design in your staging copy it’s time to migrate everything into your actual website. This part of the process is very delicate and easy at the same time, that’s why I will explain it to you step by step. If you can, try to follow all the steps below to the letter.

step #1: install kadence theme

The first step to take is to remove your Flotheme.
So, go to your WordPress Dashboard > Appearance > Themes.
At this point, type Kadence in the theme search bar and install and ACTIVATE it on your website.
If you don’t find it in the directory, download it from here and import it into this section by clicking on “Add new theme” > “Upload theme”.

Please, note: if you used the Kadence free parent theme in your staging copy, then all you have to do is install it and import it into your website.
If, however, you used a Kadence child theme, such as those from Her creative details, then in addition to the basic Kadence theme, you will need to upload the child theme you used in your staging version here.

Optional: in both cases my important advice is to create a child theme of the theme you have just applied so that you can also make CSS changes within the child theme if you need it. For this process, I recommend using the Child Theme Configurator plugin.

step #3: import page content

Copying the content of various pages from one Kadence website to another is really very easy. Just copy and paste.
